Recognizing leadership in open science: Dr. Jenny Molloy receives European Open Source Academy award

Last Thursday, January 29th, Dr. Jenny Molloy, Reclone Co-Founder and Global Co-Lead, received the Special Recognition Award for Advocacy and Awareness from the European Open Source Academy.

Jenny is currently an assistant research professor at the University of Cambridge and biomanufacturing group leader at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), where she focuses on open science and collaborative research infrastructure. Across her work as a researcher, community organizer, and collaborator, Dr. Molloy has helped shape conversations around equitable access to biotechnology. She has been a key contributor to initiatives such as the Open Material Transfer Agreement (OpenMTA), which enables researchers to share biological materials more easily across institutions and borders, and has supported global communities, including the Gathering for Open Science Hardware (GOSH).

Reclone emerged from this broader movement to make biotechnology more collaborative and accessible. Since its founding in 2020 by Jenny Molloy and Fernan Federici, Reclone has grown into a global research community working to improve access to reagents through shared protocols, open collections, training activities, and regional collaborations. The network brings together researchers, institutions, and community labs to explore practical approaches to open biosharing and distributed reagent production.

During her acceptance speech, Jenny recognized the Reclone community and gave a special acknowledgement to Dr. Federici, highlighting the collaborative work that has shaped the network since its early days.

This recognition reflects not only individual leadership but also the growing global momentum behind open and community-driven approaches to biotechnology. The work of expanding equitable access to scientific tools continues through collaboration across institutions, regions, and disciplines

We congratulate Jenny on this recognition and thank her for the leadership and collaboration that continue to shape Reclone.
